Ahhhh, sleep!  Amazing how a restful night can refresh and invigorate!

The first thing I always do when I wake up on a moving train is look out the window to see where we are.  Today, I was welcomed with one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve seen in a long time.

Our Texas Eagle train was riding along the mighty Mississippi River.  The sun was just beginning to peek over the lush hillside and the reflections on the water were like flecks of gold glitter shining over the water.   I quickly grabbed my iPhone to take pictures of this magnificent sight.  Although I wasn’t sure how the pictures would turn out–I had to hope for the best.

After sitting at the window quietly watching this mornings’ wonder, I finally thought it best that I get ready for Debra, our attendant, to arrive with our breakfast.  Michelle was still asleep and not aware of the beauty I had witnessed but she did enjoy looking at the pictures.

Lunch was announced a little earlier today. We went to the Dining Car at about 11:30 and were promptly seated at our booth.  As always, we had a table with a great view!   Soon we had a couple join us who were traveling to Chicago, from Dallas for the weekend.  It was their first time riding Amtrak and were excited to hear about all the inside “secrets” and deals!

We arrive in Chicago later today.  The entire Metropolitan Lounge area in Chicago Union Station,  has been remodeled since the last time we came through.  This lounge area is only for persons riding in Sleeper Car accommodations.  It’s highly secure and has many free conveniences for Amtrak Premium riders.  Can’t wait to see the changes!

Check in tomorrow for a review of the new Lounge areas.

Other sights we saw along the way…
